JOB DESCRIPTION
Location: Hybrid | Downtown, Toronto
Duration: 12 Months
Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Manager, Digital Product Design to lead discovery initiatives and align cross-functional teams on problem definition and strategic direction. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.
Typical Day in role:
- Conduct qualitative research, including user interviews, contextual inquiry, and competitive analysis
- Synthesize research insights into artifacts such as journey maps, personas, and ecosystem maps
- Design and facilitate workshops and ideation sessions
- Present strategic insights to stakeholders at all levels, including executives
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies (especially AI/ML capabilities)
- Collaborate with business, operations, technology, design, and development teams
- Navigate ambiguity in fast-paced environments
- A typical day involves collaborating with cross-functional teams (business stakeholders, designers, developers) to define project strategy and drive design thinking processes. The manager will spend time conducting or synthesizing user research, creating strategic artifacts like journey maps or personas, facilitating workshops to explore challenges and solutions, presenting insights to leadership, and staying current on industry trends. Days are dynamic, requiring flexibility to shift between strategic thinking, hands-on research, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership.
Must Have Skills:
- 3-7 years of experience in product strategy, design, consulting, and/or research
- Strong qualitative research skills including methodology selection, user recruitment, research guide development, and insight synthesis
- Deep understanding of design thinking methodologies, tools, and research methods
- Strong facilitation skills; comfortable planning and leading collaborative virtual and in-person workshops
- Ability to synthesize complex information and present insights in simplified, visually appealing ways to stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to collect diverse stakeholder feedback and iterate on outputs
- Big picture thinking and strategic mindset
- Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to navigate ambiguity in fast-paced environments
Nice-To-Have Skills:
- Experience in the financial services sector or corporate setting
- Awareness of AI/ML capabilities and how they can solve business problems
- Experience with digital analytics tools, metrics and impact reporting, and enabling data-driven decision making
- Experience working in large, matrixed organizations
- Knowledge of wealth management or asset management products/services

Education:
- Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Sociology, Anthropology, History, Psychology, Strategic Foresight, Humanities, Cultural Studies, Political Science, Business, or equivalent work experience
