JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Hybrid | Downtown, Toronto

Duration: 12 months

Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Lead Digital Product Designer to research interaction design strategies in the financial services sector and perform competitive Design audits pertinent to specific design or business goals. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in role:

This role will be focusing on the portfolio management experience, shaping a new tool for reporting solutions and connecting with cross functional partners, driving discovery and prioritization of features, visioning, workshops and mentoring other designers on the team. 

What will you do?

Your expertise will shine and come to life with a focus on these 2 aspects:

Product Design Strategy & Delivery

Design Strategy

  • Break down complex topics and present effectively to broad audiences and senior stakeholders
  • Lead and facilitate design critique and ideation sessions, evaluate Digital User Experiences for inclusivity and provide advanced advice and guidance to cross-functional teams and stakeholders

 

Artifact Creation

  • Apply comprehensive design theories, research data and best practices to inform design decisions, while guiding and mentoring peers and teams
  • Create complex low-fidelity sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to explore, communicate, and validate ideas. Create complex prototypes to provide high-fidelity specifications for development

 

Research and Testing

  • Collaborate with Design Researcher to design and facilitate research activities, analyze data, identify key findings to inform strategic decisions with clear and actionable recommendations
  • Research interaction design strategies in the financial services sector and perform competitive Design audits pertinent to specific design or business goals

Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Represent the Digital Product Design practice as a trusted business partner by providing measurable business value and leadership-level insights to cross-functional partners and stakeholders through demos, presentations, and workshops
  • Empower teams to succeed with a shared vision; delegating authority, and removing obstacles that hinder progress

Must Have Skills:

  • Understanding of system thinking, Figma, Mural or any other collaboration toll like Miro. As well as a good understanding of how to apply design systems.
  • Facilitation of workshops, successfully launched products in the past. Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into clear design direction. Strong storytelling and executive communication skills. Ability to influence cross-functional partners.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in designing and developing usable interfaces across multiple platforms
  • Demonstrate ability to articulate design strategy, rationale, and logic; describing benefits and highlighting risks associated with design decisions
  • Strong expertise with Figma, accessibility, agile methodologies and user experience metrics
  • Experience designing web and mobile native user interfaces
  • Experience creating or contributing to a design system

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Bachelor or Master’s in HCI, Design, UX Design, or related fields. Strong storytelling showing why decisions were made, not just what was designed. Experience incorporating AI solutions into complex systems.
  • Experience working within a large organization and within an agile environment
  • Experience supporting and collaborating on the creation of robust Design Systems
  • Experience with Salesforce or other SAAS platforms

Soft Skills Required:

  • Ability to explain complex ideas clearly. 
  • Keeping discussions focused.
  • Keeping conversations constructive. Reading the room.

Education:

  • BA/BS degree in Design (e.g. user experience, graphic, visual communications, digital product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), Systems Design / Human Factors Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • MA/MS degree or certification in Design (e.g. user experience, graphic, visual communications, digital product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), Systems Design / Human Factors Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience or a related field
