JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Hybrid | Downtown, Toronto

Duration: 3 Months | Strong possibility of extension

Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Cloud DevOps Engineer – CI/CD, GCP, GKE, Terraform to design and develop enterprise-scale CI/CD pipelines and workflows. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in role:

CI/CD & Cloud Engineering

  • Design and develop enterprise-scale CI/CD pipelines and workflows
  • Build and manage environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Configuration as Code (CaC), and Policy as Code (PaC)
  • Deploy and manage applications using Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly GKE
  • Integrate modern DevOps tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo, etc.) into unified workflows
  • Contribute to backend, infrastructure-focused DevOps development (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD)

Architecture & Solution Delivery

  • Translate business and technical requirements into scalable solution designs
  • Create implementation plans and contribute to architectural roadmaps
  • Support large-scale platform modernization and architectural enhancements
  • Perform technical analysis, design reviews, and effort estimation

Collaboration & Agile Delivery

  • Work closely with developers, product teams, and stakeholders across the organization
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, demos)
  • Communicate designs and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Provide mentorship and knowledge sharing to junior engineers

Development & Operations

  • Write clean, maintainable, and tested code within shared repositories
  • Maintain and update technical documentation
  • Continuously improve development processes and automation capabilities
  • Drive innovation and adopt emerging FinTech and DevOps practices

Governance & Risk

  • Ensure all solutions comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies
  • Incorporate the Bank’s risk appetite, compliance, and control frameworks into all activities
  • Promote a customer-focused, inclusive, and high-performance culture

Must Have Skills:

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in DevOps, infrastructure, back-end developer roles
  • 3+ years’ experience with GitHub Workflows and Actions for CI/CD
  • 3+ years’ experience with Google Cloud (GCP) expertise w/ GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine)
  • 3+ years’ experience creating large-scale IAC-based deployments in Terraform (or Open Tofu)

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Previous experience with modernization, banking or regulated environment
  • 3+ DevOps tools: Docker, Jenkins, ArgoCD, Argo Workflow, HelmCharts
  • 3+ of experience with Node.js, Typescript, Golang
  • Experience with public clouds – Azure
  • Experience with Linux system administration at the command-line, especially Bash scripting 
  • Experience with automating tasks in scripting languages useful in CD (e.g., Bash, Node.js, Python, Ruby, Go, Groovy, Java) 

Soft Skills Required:

  • Meticulous attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills – fluency in English is expected
  • High integrity and discretion with sensitive financial data
  • Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and time management prowess

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
