Tax Information Filing Analyst

JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Hybrid | Downtown, Toronto

Duration: 12 months

Our client a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Tax Information Filing Analyst to ensure local compliance of tax obligations (compliance, advisory, planning) regarding the identification, tax treatment, withholding and reporting of transactional and operational taxes. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in role:

  • Undertake day-to-day activities of the Personal Banking (PB), Regulatory, Strategy & Delivery business
  • Units, which include, but are not limited to, Controls infrastructure; integration of Tax processes across various systems, departments and infrastructure.
  • Upload tax information files that are dropped into a secure shared folder from IT, to CRA via a CRA web-based portal.
  • Verify and record confirmation of successful submission, maintaining a comprehensive log of all activities.
  • Identify, document and escalate failed submissions by creating tickets through the IT support process.
  • Liaise with IT and CRA to troubleshoot and resolve system or file errors in a timely fashion.
  • Support continuous improvement of the submission and logging process where appropriate.
  • In a supportive role, work actively with the bank’s Tax groups to ensure that clients and entities are classified/certified correctly, and that relevant documentation is completed to achieve appropriate taxation reportability classifications and withholding ability rates.
  • Establish and maintain controls surrounding the due diligence, withholding and reporting of
  • Taxes, ensuring these are effectively managed and any risks are escalated in accordance with the bank’s Risk and Compliance policies.
  • Establish a best practice approach in ensuring that clients, counterparties and internal business partners receive appropriate attention and that all queries are responded to and resolved in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure team and related processes are kept up to date with changing tax regimes as they apply to PB businesses and clients.
  • Assisting in the completion of audit preparedness planning and execution
  • Develop reporting and ensure provision of weekly, monthly and annual KPIs and KRIs.
  • Support all system testing and drive changes to improve process efficiency.
  • Ensure procedures are regularly maintained and updated for all processes.
  • Work to ensure that all projects raised internally or by the Operations Engineering Team are supported by the team and delivered to the best of the team.
  • The client’s attestation policy should be adhered to by account preparers and all accounts accurately assigned with an appropriate attestation status within the month-end timetable.

Must-Have Skills:

  • 2-5 years of experience within an Operations environment of a financial institution.
  • Operational Tax Regulation knowledge and understand potential impacts to operational processing and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, to formulate referenced policy and translate these into documented procedures and controls.
  • Familiarity in respect to Entity structures and knowledge of tax impacts on varying transactional flows and asset classes.
  • Experience in the CRA application and with Tax Operations        

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  •  Relevant Accountancy designations are a preference.
  • French

Education:

  • The employee should be educated to a minimum of a University Degree within a Financial or Economic sector, or a recognized financial-based diploma.
