IT Project Manager

Our client a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for an IT Project Manager to go beyond traditional project management by understanding business requirements and proposed solutions, ensuring alignment between delivery and strategic objectives. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in role:

  • End-to-end project delivery: Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget, meeting quality standards and organizational objectives.
  • Project planning and scheduling: Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and milestones; monitor progress and adjust as needed to maintain delivery commitments.
  • Resource forecasting and allocation: Prepare accurate resource forecasts, manage capacity planning, and optimize utilization across teams and vendors.
  • Financial management: Track project budgets, manage accruals, monitor actuals vs forecasts, and ensure compliance with financial policies and reporting standards.
  • Risk and issue management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks; maintain RAID logs and escalate issues promptly to stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication: Provide clear, timely updates to leadership and cross-functional teams; manage expectations and dependencies.
  • Governance and compliance: Adhere to organizational project governance frameworks, EDF gating, and operational readiness requirements.
  • Vendor and contract management: Coordinate with external partners, ensuring deliverables meet contractual obligations and service-level agreements.
  • Quality assurance and operational readiness: Oversee testing, release management, and readiness activities to ensure smooth deployment and transition to BAU.
  • Continuous improvement: Drive process optimization, lessons learned, and adoption of best practices for future projects.
  • Ability to go beyond traditional project management by understanding business requirements and proposed solutions, ensuring alignment between delivery and strategic objectives.

Must-Have Skills:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience in end-to-end IT project delivery within complex environments.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid).
  • Proficiency in resource forecasting, financial tracking, and budget management.
  • Ability to manage vendor relationships and contractual obligations.
  • Expertise in risk and issue management, including RAID log maintenance.
  • Familiarity with governance frameworks and compliance standards.

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Experience with cloud migration projects and modernization initiatives.
  • Exposure to data analytics or reporting tools
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements in financial or enterprise environments
  • Certification such as PMP

Education:

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field
