JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Hybrid (Downtown, Toronto)

Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto is looking for a Director, External Reporting to collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to deliver best-in-class disclosures. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in role:

  • Manage the preparation and delivery of Bank’s Annual Report and Quarterly Report to Shareholders
  • Translate results and developments into a clear and consistent story for external stakeholders such as investors and analysts
  • Communicate key disclosure matters to senior leaders at Bank using a commercial/business lens, including through the preparation of materials for senior executives, our CFO, and the Board/Audit Committee
  • Bring unique perspective and curiosity to set ambitious goals, implement process improvements, and challenge the status quo
  • Drive progress and contribute to strategic initiatives within the Chief Accountant’s Group and more broadly within the CFO Group
  • Lead the delivery of critical and complex sections of management’s discussion and analysis (MD&A)
  • Perform detailed reviews of MD&A sections completed by other members of the External Reporting team to ensure accuracy and quality of disclosures
  • Assess and evaluate the impact of new disclosure and regulatory requirements
  • Help to shape future disclosure requirements by leading or supporting advocacy efforts on developments impacting Bank’s external disclosures
  • Liaise with industry peers on disclosure matters as needed through industry associations (i.e. Canadian Bankers Association)
  • Shape Bank’s external disclosure strategy and deliver best–in-class disclosures through effective partnering with key stakeholders and benchmarking
  • Provide effective challenge through disclosure reviews and drive consistency across Bank’s external disclosures
  • Develop strong business partner relationships with senior members from across our business segments, Finance, Law, Risk Management, and Communications

Must-Have Skills:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively to executives
  • Experience with financial reporting
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills, including ability to recommend practical solutions to complex challenges in a dynamic environment
  • Proactive and forward-thinking approach
  • Strong interpersonal skills – specifically, able to act as change agent, facilitator and collaborator
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Strong understanding of regulatory disclosure requirements
  • Solid understanding of financial institutions, including all facets of Bank’s business and other activities with strong business acumen

Education:

  • Bachelor Degree
