Position Overview       

Our client, a large size Real Estate Investment Trust, Property Manager, and Developer is in need of an experienced Director to join their Development Accounting team! Currently, the company has identified many development opportunities and are looking for an experienced individual to help lay down the structure and culture around ownership, collaboration, continuous growth, and accountability. Acting as a key business partner, this candidate will work closely with the Development & Construction group to ensure the delivery of project accounting needs, reporting, budget monitoring, and other project tasks are completed accurately, within a reasonable time, and from end to end.

Responsibilities           

The candidate’s main responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Actively engage and work with colleagues from all levels to build strong relationships and influence

  • Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to teams and individuals a like through an empowering and supportive environment
  1. Business Partnership
  • Work closely with the Development & Construction groups building long relationships to ensure the delivery of project accounting needs are completed accurately, within a reasonable time, and from end to end
  • Build and maintain a strong working relationship with joint venture partners to ensure financial reporting and accounting objectives are achieved
  1. Responsibilities
  • Overall responsibility of development project level accounting, reporting, budget monitoring and forecasting
  • Ensure all development related accounting transactions and transition from development to operational accounting are completed in an accurate, timely and comprehensive manner
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting on the financial progress of development projects, investigating variances from construction budgets, forecasting project results and ensuring that the project results are reported accurately and on time
  • Develop, review and deliver recurring monthly reports and project reviews with accounting / finance and business leaders
  • Review of construction draws, cash calls, and funding needs
  • In collaboration with various business functions, identify, recommend, and implement changes or enhancements to development accounting reporting, process and controls
  • Support tax and corporate accounting teams to deliver all regulatory filings and in the preparation of joint venture legal entity financial statements for compliance purposes
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external auditors and act as main point of contact related to all development accounting matters

Qualifications    

Job Qualifications:

· University degree Business, Accounting / Finance and CPA designation is required

· Minimum 12 years of overall accounting experience with a minimum of four years in a leadership capacity in real estate / real estate development

· Mentoring and coaching experience with proven ability to lead a team with diverse levels of expertise

· Proactive, self-motivated, flexible and collaborative individual

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, problem solving skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy

· Proficiency with Microsoft Suite applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Financial systems (JDE, BI tools, Spreadsheet Server) SQL, Power BI is an asset

Position Structure      

  • Full Time Permanent position
  • On site located in Mid-Town Toronto
