Design Technologist

JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Hybrid | Downtown, Toronto

Duration: 12 Months

Our client a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Design Technologist to design system library management. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in role:

  • Designing and developing high-fidelity UI components
  • Advocating and training users of the design system
  • Build strong relationships with development teams
  • QA to ensure consistent, high-quality implementation of UI components

Must-Have Skills:

  • Keen eye for design detail such as typography, spacing, visual hierarchy, and sophisticated micro-interactions
  • Experience coding components in CSS, HTML, JavaScript
  • Comfortable with Angular
  • Design system experience- Experience creating or contributing to a design system.
  • UI Component Design (Figma)
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in designing and developing usable interfaces across multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate design strategy, rationale and logic; describing benefits and highlighting risks associated with design decisions.
  • Strong expertise with Figma.
  • Has experience in mobile design and/or development (iOS or Android).

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Broader knowledge of software APIs and object-oriented programming
  • Design thinking and research skills
  • Experience working within a large organization and within an agile environment.
  • Has experience with CSS, JavaScript and is familiar with common user interface tools and frameworks (Sass, Tailwind, React, Angular).

Soft Skills Required:

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, ability to collaborate with other designers and cross-functional team members, ability to manage stakeholders and build relationships.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops is a nice-to-have.

Education:

  • BA/BS degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), Systems Design / Human Factors Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • MA/MS degree or certification in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), Systems Design / Human Factors Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience or a related field.
