JOB DESCRIPTION
Location: Hybrid | Downtown, Toronto
Duration: 6 Months
Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Sr. Cloud Engineer – GCP, Terraform to contribute to automation initiatives that simplify cloud resource provisioning and deployment workflows across the enterprise. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.
Typical Day in role:
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance cloud platforms, services, and reusable components that enable secure enterprise-wide adoption of public cloud technologies.
- Take technical ownership of key platform components within a larger product ecosystem.
- Develop, maintain, and refactor code primarily using Go, Python, and other modern programming languages.
- Ensure software solutions meet availability, reliability, security, compliance, and operational excellence standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and stakeholders to break down requirements, estimate effort, and deliver solutions.
- Partner with application teams to support successful onboarding and adoption of cloud platform services.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement sessions.
- Build and operate highly available, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure and software solutions.
Must Have Skills:
- 6+ years of hands-on technical working experience experience in an Infrastructure Operations, DevOps or Cloud Engineering Operations role
- 6+ years of hands-on technical working experience with Cloud Environments such as GCP, AWS, Azure, etc. (1-2 years of which must be GCP)
- 6+ years of hands-on technical working experience with Infrastructure as Code with Terraform HCL.
- 6+ years of hands-on technical working experience with development/scripting languages (Python, Linux), container-based technologies, config management tools, container-based technologies, and CI/CD tools
Nice-To-Have Skills:
- Hands-on technical working experience with virtualized environments (VMWare, Virtual Servers)
- Expertise and understanding of Cloud Native Platforms, particularly Kubernetes, and associated technologies (e.g., Istio, Envoy, Anthos, Kustomize).
- Experience working with monitoring tools such as Dynatrace (preferred), Prometheus, Grafana, etc.
- Full understanding of software development lifecycle and release process (container-native workflow for job orchestration, Git/GitOps, CI/CD, environments, code repositories).
- Understanding of different database technologies (e.g. CloudSQL, NoSQL, Relational databases)
- Knowledge of software design patterns, and/or security considerations
- Focus on scalable, enterprise-level software system design (both on code and infrastructure levels)
- Passion for driving teams towards high performance and a deep pride in quality craftsmanship.
- High level Unix administration skills.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
- Cloud certifications (particularly GCP-related certifications) are considered a strong asset.
