Database Administrator

JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Hybrid | Downtown, Toronto

Duration: 12 months

Our client a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto is looking for a Database Administrator to perform day-to-day database administration tasks and provide support to our internal clients. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in role:

  • Complete builds, upgrades and enhancements to maintain the database servers
  • Actively discuss, review, and recommend technical options and activities with the team
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests from our internal clients with a high level of customer service
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for projects
  • Troubleshoot performance-related issues and optimize in-house developed application code
  • Create and maintain system documentation, as per Bank standards and project requirements
  • Provide after-hours support when needed (planned or on-call)

Must-Have Skills:

  • 10+ years of database administration and operational work experience using Microsoft SQL Server (2014/2016/2017/2019)
  • Effective communication with team members, internal and external clients
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of T-SQL and the SQL Standard
  • Strong systematic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or higher and/or Azure SQL certifications

Education:

  • A degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
