JOB DESCRIPTION
Location: Hybrid (Downtown, Toronto)
Duration: 12 months
Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Design Researcher to collaborate with 2 squads of designers on the mobile team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.
Typical Day in role:
- Help the team identify and define client needs via multiple research methods and tools
- Analyze the competitive landscape, to identify business opportunities
- Facilitate workshops at various parts of the design process
- Work with the product team to map product strategy to client needs
- Propose and participate in user testing of designs
- Present their work to the wider team
- Take and give feedback frequently
Must-Have Skills:
- Ability to clearly articulate the client and the business problem, and to craft questions based on our blind spots
- An understanding of what research and testing methods are appropriate for which types of questions.
- An ability to evaluate the competitive landscape to identify opportunities
- An understanding of trends in iOS and Android.
- Ability to identify what we need to research, test and measure in production, and what the metrics mean
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in research
- Technical understanding of design research theory / design research tools
- Working knowledge of a variety of design research methodologies
- Experience working on cross-functional teams
Nice-To-Have Skills:
- Financial basics like how revolving credit works
- Appreciation for the potential of ‘design thinking’
- Experience working within a large organization and within an agile environment
- Experience contributing to the launch of a digital product
Soft Skills Required:
- Strong communication, facilitation and presentation skills, ability to collaborate with other designers and cross-functional team members, ability to manage stakeholders and build relationships.
Education:
- BA/BS degree in Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Information Studies, Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field or equivalent practical experience
- MA/MS degree or certification in Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Information Studies, Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field
