Location: Hybrid | Downtown, Toronto
Duration: 12 months
Our client a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto is looking for a Digital Product Designer – Expert to collaborate with 2 squads of designers on the mobile team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.
Typical Day in role: You’ll work with a cross-functional group of designers, product managers, and developers. Embedded in a product, journey, or channel, you will identify upcoming decisions that need research inputs, propose methodologies, carry out fieldwork, analyse, and socialize the implications.
- Help the team identify and define client needs via multiple research methods and tools.
- Analyze the competitive landscape to identify business opportunities.
- Facilitate workshops at various parts of the design process
- Work with the product team to map the product strategy to the client’s needs
- Propose and participate in user testing of designs and present their work to the wider team
- Take and give feedback frequently
Design Research Strategy
- Build relationships with key stakeholders within and outside of the design team
- Support designers and business stakeholders in prioritizing potential research activities
- Develop research fieldwork approaches (moderated or unmoderated) that address business and design objectives
Research and Testing (Execution, Synthesis, Analysis):
- Develop research activities to evaluate prototypes, improve understanding of the current context, or to generate new understanding of changing user needs.
- Moderate live sessions with users and bank people covering high-complexity or sensitive topics. Communicate core themes and implications from your research activities to the design team and other stakeholders.
- Design and facilitate ideation sessions and collaborative work activities.
Must-Have Skills:
- Ability to clearly articulate the client and the business problem, and to craft questions based on our blind spots
- An understanding of what research and testing methods are appropriate for which types of questions.
- An ability to evaluate the competitive landscape to identify opportunities
- An understanding of trends in iOS and Android.
- Ability to identify what we need to research, test and measure in production, and what the metrics mean
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in research.
- Technical understanding of design research theory/design research tools.
- Working knowledge of a variety of design research methodologies.
- Experience working on cross-functional teams.
Nice-To-Have Skills:
- Financial basics like how revolving credit works.
- MA/MS degree or certification in Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Information Studies,
- Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field
- Appreciation for the potential of design thinking.
- Experience working within a large organization and an agile environment
- Experience contributing to the launch of a digital product
Soft Skills Required:
- Strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills, ability to collaborate with other designers and cross-functional team members, ability to manage stakeholders and build relationships.
Education:
- BA/BS degree in Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Information Studies, Design (interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
